With Friends Like These ...

This past weekend, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review published an editorial urging an immediate withdrawal from Iraq. The editorial said, among other things, "when George Bush started blathering about 'sometimes the decisions you make and the consequences don't enable you to be loved,' we had to question his mental stability."

"So what?" you might say. Plenty of people question Bush's mental stability these days.

What makes this particular editorial interesting is the fact the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review is owned by the Tribune-Review Publishing Company, which is headed by Richard Mellon Scaife.

You may remember Scaife as one of the principal bankrollers in support of the Clinton impeachment. Scaife is also a noted contributor to right-wing candidates and causes, including large, multiple contributions to the Citizens Club for Growth Inc. PAC ... and to a certain William T. Sali.

If Scaife's flagship paper is writing something like this, you know the endgame is near.
