Sali: Illegals hurt our vets

Check Bill out: Illegal immigrants are "Most troubling" as an affront to veterans, now. Except for the part where noncitizens, slaves, former slaves, and japanese relocatees (and countless other second-class believers in the ideals of our country) all have served honorably and heroically and died.

And isn't there some hypocrisy in a flop-con saying "The law must be respected and obeyed by everyone."

Brainfade's solution? Fund that fence. A.k.a., VERY EXPENSIVE SECURITY THEATER, given the 9-11 terrorists came via Canada and entereed legally with valid ID & passports.

Kudos to District 1. You've outdone electing Helen when you picked this moron.

Swiss Cheese Indeed

Yes, let's spend millions on a fence that (1) separates two major trading partners (2) alienates a large section of Americans and (3) will become a literal metaphor of "Swiss cheese," all for cheap political laughs. C'mon Bill, you're supposed to be the small government guy, the one who doesn't blow tax money on boondoggles, remember? You're killing me here ...

Tell the California farm industry that Mexicans are taking jobs away from Americans. They've had chronic labor shortages for several years running, don't you know. At least Larry Craig (of all people) appears to be somewhat enlightened on this particular topic.

Here's another thought: How about encouraging private American enterprise to invest in Mexico and pay good wages down there? Y'all passed NAFTA earlier than you should have; at least try to make it work.

Here's a better thought: How about encouraging something very similar for Idaho instead of engaging in this sort of divisive skullduggery?

Economy

I agree with faustus, we need to assist Mexico in pumping up it's economy. We can do that by not offshoring so much of our manufacturing to the Asias, which are having issues keeping up with demand. Training programs could be directed by American companies that can rake in millions. All this just off our shores? What is stopping us from helping Mexico become a viable democracy?

Oh, not much oil.

Mexico

Also remember that while Mexico has a long way to go, it's in a lot better shape than it was 20 years ago.

No friend of illegal immigration by any stretch of the imagination, Lou Dobbs (who incidentally was a classmate of my mother's at Minico High School in Rupert in the early 1960s), makes a good case for Mexico in this regard.

Sali the Poster-boy

I bet if we raised enough money, and for a good cause, the Idaho Mental Association (www.idahomentalhealth.org) would actually designate the very day that Bill Sali had his infamous 'brain-fade' accident...for a new state holiday.

Now here's the big question, what to call it?
